Dear Parents,
September was a busy and rewarding month at GIIS Nagpur. Students took part with energy in every activity the school planned, and the month brought results that the whole school is proud of.
Nursery to Grade 2 students celebrated Janmashtami on 3rd September with dance, music, drama and devotional performances. Grade 1A opened the programme with an assembly explaining the significance of the festival. Students heard the story of Lord Krishna's birth and the values linked to his life: love, kindness, courage and helping others. The Grade 2 dance drama showed Krishna's childhood on stage. The Nursery and kindergarten classes also performed, and songs and a bhajan dance rounded out the programme.
Teachers' Day was celebrated in the multipurpose hall, where students put on skits, dances and songs for their teachers. They also gave their teachers cards and handmade roses. The hall was full of cheering and laughter through every performance.
Students also took part in the Floral Carpet Rangoli and Painting Competitions organised by the Nagpur Garden Club at Kusumtai Wankhede Hall. The theme was "Garden", and students from 13 schools across the city took part. GIIS Nagpur won the Consolation Prize in the Floral Carpet Rangoli Competition. The team was Samrudhi Nagarkar, Swara Pethe, Oli Bag, Vanshika Udasi, Nidhi Dongare and Kavya Dhare, along with Tamanna Patil. In the Painting Competition, Tamanna Patil won the Third Prize. Anabia Fatima Parvez Sheikh, Anahita Kumari, Samvidha Jambhulkar, Sayuri Mahure, Archit Sharma, Adhyan Lokhande and several other classmates also took part. Ms. Pooja Suryavanshi (Mentor) and Ms. Prachi Daoo (Deputy Segment Coordinator) guided the students through their preparation.
In sports, Hriddhan Uttarwar secured 3rd position in the 10 MTR PP Sight Air Rifle shooting event.
On 16th September, Grade 1C organised a special assembly for Ganesh Chaturthi. Students from Nursery, K1 and Grade 1 performed a dance dedicated to Lord Ganesha. A short video on the birth story of Lord Ganesha was then shown, and the assembly ended with a Ganesha-themed art activity in which students worked with colours and designs.
International Dot Day was also marked on 16th September, inspired by the children's book "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds. Each class had its own activity. Nursery students made colourful dots inside the letter 'e', K1 students drew raindrops using dots of different sizes and shades, and K2 students decorated a fruit basket with dots.
Students from Nursery to Grade 2 took part in the iCare Compost Making Activity. They learned how leaves and vegetable peels can be turned into compost for plants, and how keeping different kinds of waste apart makes this possible. K2 students from sections A and B visited the school kitchen garden as part of experiential learning. They looked at the vegetables growing there and learned about four kinds of plants: creepers, climbers, herbs and shrubs. They also looked at the leaves, stems, flowers and vegetables of each plant.
On Thursday, 24th September, the Thinking Thursday activity gave Nursery to Grade 2 students experiments suited to their age. Nursery and K1 students worked on the Robotic Hands Science Project. K2 students made Paper Flowers That Colour Themselves. Grade 1 and Grade 2 students did the Rainbow Colour Experiment, in which they placed paper with rainbow-coloured dots in water and watched the colours spread. Students were asked to predict what would happen and then check it against what they saw.
The same day, the School Special Educator conducted a Good Touch and Bad Touch Awareness Session for Nursery to Grade 2. Students learned to tell safe touch from uncomfortable touch and that they can say "No" to a touch that makes them uncomfortable. They also learned the No-Go-Tell routine: say no, move away, and tell a trusted adult. Parents can support this at home by asking their child who their trusted adults are.
Grandparents Day for Nursery to Grade 2 brought grandparents to school to spend time with their grandchildren. Each grandparent received a customised passport and visited activity stations with games, creative corners and nostalgic activities. At one station, grandparents pinned a mustache onto a cartoon grandfather. At another, they built towers from paper plates and cups with their grandchildren. The formal programme in the hall began with traditional lamp lighting and a welcome song. The Segment Coordinator addressed the gathering, the teachers performed a dance for the grandparents, and the students presented a curtain call to thank them. A medical camp offered free health check-ups, and there were two selfie spots for family photos. Grandparents also shared their feedback with the school, and it was positive.
Looking Ahead
As October begins, GIIS Nagpur looks forward to another month of learning and celebration. The school thanks parents for their continued support and for being part of each of these events.
Warm Regards,
Ms. Nidhi Gupta
