“Books are uniquely portable magic.” - Ruskin Bond
Immersing young minds in the world of literature is one of the most powerful ways to spark imagination, build knowledge, and inspire lifelong learning. Reflecting this belief, GIIS Nagpur organised a special field trip to the Nagpur Book Festival at Reshimbagh Ground, giving students an enriching opportunity to celebrate the joy of reading. Ruskin Bond’s words capture the essence of this initiative, as the school continues to foster a culture in which books become trusted companions on every child’s learning journey.
Fifty enthusiastic students from Grades 1 to 8 were selected for this visit based on their exceptional book-borrowing habits and impressive performance on RAZ Plus. This thoughtful selection rewarded their dedication while motivating others to develop strong reading practices. The festival opened a vibrant world of stories, ideas, and creativity, allowing the children to explore books by renowned authors across genres and themes.
As they walked through the stalls, students discovered new favourites, browsed colourful titles, and interacted with books that broadened their perspectives. A highlight of the trip was the book cover design activity, which allowed students to show flair and creativity. This hands-on experience enhanced their imagination, encouraged focused thinking, and added an enjoyable, creative dimension to the visit.
The field trip supported essential student learning outcomes, including improved reading interest, exposure to diverse literature, enhanced creative thinking, and a deeper appreciation for books as tools of knowledge. By engaging with a wide variety of texts, students strengthened their vocabulary, comprehension, and curiosity, skills that play a vital role in academic growth.
The Principal of GIIS Nagpur, Ms. Nidhi Gupta, expressed delight at the students’ enthusiasm and commended their achievements. The Principal shared that such educational visits cultivate holistic development by blending learning with real-world experiences. Encouraging children to step beyond the classroom and engage with literature in a dynamic environment helps instil confidence, creativity, and a love for reading.
The memorable visit to the Nagpur Book Festival not only nurtured students’ passion for literature but also reinforced GIIS Nagpur’s commitment to providing meaningful learning experiences. Through this enriching experience, the school continues to champion the transformative power of books and the joy of lifelong learning.
