“The Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.” - Mahatma Gandhi
GIIS Lava, Nagpur, conducted a vibrant and engaging iCare activity for students from Nursery to Grade 2, centred around the theme ‘Best Out of Waste’. The initiative aimed to promote environmental responsibility, creativity, and sustainability while nurturing the children’s imagination through fun, hands-on learning experiences.
Students enthusiastically participated in transforming recycled newspapers into artistic creations such as baskets, collages, and wall decorations. The activity encouraged them to look beyond the concept of waste and discover innovative ways to reuse materials, reinforcing the idea that sustainability begins with small, thoughtful actions. Teachers guided the young learners to think creatively while understanding the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling in their daily lives.
The session was closely aligned with the GIIS 9GEMS holistic education framework, focusing on creativity, innovation, universal values and ethics, and community care. Children developed fine motor skills, artistic confidence, and a sense of environmental awareness while learning that their efforts, however small, contribute to a larger global cause.
Principal, Ms. Nidhi Gupta, shared her thoughts, saying, “At GIIS, we believe in shaping responsible global citizens who care deeply about their environment. Activities like Best Out of Waste instil in our young learners a sense of creativity and responsibility, helping them realise that every action, no matter how small, can bring about positive change.”
The joyful smiles and pride on the children’s faces as they displayed their creations spoke a lot about the success of the activity. Through initiatives like this, GIIS Lava, Nagpur continues to uphold its vision of providing holistic education, inspiring students to become innovative, responsible and environmentally conscious citizens.
