Global Indian International School, Lava Campus, Nagpur, held Grandparents Day for Nursery to Grade 2 learners. The day was planned around things grandparents and grandchildren could do together, and they spent it moving between classrooms, the corridors and the main hall.
Each grandparent was welcomed with a customised passport. The passport took them through a set of activity stations, where they played games with their grandchildren, visited creative corners and took part in nostalgic activities. Some stations drew a crowd. At one, grandparents pinned a moustache onto the picture of a cartoon grandfather while the children looked on and cheered. At another, a large colour dice was rolled across a floor of coloured squares, and everyone waited to see where it landed. Elsewhere, grandparents and children built towers from paper plates and cups, and picked beans and rubber bands against a timer. At a creative corner, they worked together with coloured paper pieces laid out on leaf plates. Grandparents sat at the tables beside the children, and the rooms were full of laughter.
Later, families gathered in the hall for the formal programme, with grandparents seated next to their grandchildren. The screen behind the stage carried the lines "Grandparents, Our First Friends, Our Forever Guides" and "Different Generations, Same Beautiful Melody." The programme began with traditional lamp lighting, followed by a welcome song. The Segment Coordinator addressed the gathering, and the teachers performed a dance dedicated to the grandparents. The young learners then presented a curtain call to say thank you and tell their grandparents how much they love them. Grandparents were also given time to share their own experiences and feedback with the school.
Away from the stage, a medical camp offered free health check-ups. Two selfie spots gave families a place to take photos together. One was a hand-painted Happy Grandparents' Day frame, and the other was a photo frame that read "you make life brighter." Grandparents posed with their grandchildren at both, some with one child and some with two.
The celebration ended with a vote of thanks. Grandparents went home with takeaways from the school, and a feedback corner stayed open for anyone who wanted to leave a message or a suggestion for the school to read. The feedback was positive!
