GIIS Nagpur held a special assembly for Kargil Vijay Diwas, with Dr (Major) Prashant S. Nimbalkar, MD DNB (Radiology) and Director at Pro Scan Research Centre, Dhantoli, attending as guest of honour.

The assembly began with a short talk to students on why Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed. The day falls on 26th July every year and marks India's victory in the 1999 Kargil War, and honours the soldiers who served in it. Dr. Nimbalkar then spoke to the students about the Kargil War and what it means for the country today. He spoke about the conditions faced during the war, including the difficult terrain and the discipline needed for soldiers deployed at high altitude, and about the importance of remembering the sacrifices made by the armed forces. He encouraged students to value the freedom and safety they have today because of those sacrifices, and to carry forward a sense of respect and gratitude towards the armed forces.

Sessions like this let students hear history directly from someone who lived it, turning a textbook chapter into a real, memorable account. The question-and-answer session that follows gives them a chance to engage directly, ask their own questions, and take away a clearer, more personal understanding of the event.

The assembly ended with the school giving Dr. Nimbalkar a token of appreciation for his time and his talk to the students.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is one of several days marked throughout the year at GIIS Nagpur, along with other national occasions like Independence Day and Republic Day.
