GIIS Nagpur marked World Photography Day with a special session titled "Photography — The Best Way of Storytelling," designed to help students understand how a single photograph can capture an entire story. The session brought together learning and creativity, encouraging students to look at the world through a more thoughtful, observant lens.

The session was conducted by Mr. Anurag Bhattacharya, a commercial photographer, visual storyteller, food stylist, and photography mentor with over 12 years of professional experience. His work spans advertising, food and beverage, product, hospitality, architecture, and wildlife photography, giving students a rare opportunity to learn directly from an industry professional.

Throughout the session, students were introduced to the core elements that make a photograph meaningful: observation, composition, emotion, perspective, and patience. Rather than simply learning how to click a picture, students were guided to think about what a photograph communicates — the story behind the frame, the emotion it captures, and the moment it preserves. Mr Anurag encouraged the students to slow down and observe their surroundings carefully before picking up a camera, helping them understand that good photography begins with good observation.

Students actively participated throughout the session, asking Mr Anurag a range of questions about photography techniques and real-world applications. He addressed these with clarity and ease, breaking down professional concepts into simple, relatable ideas that students could apply in their own attempts at photography. This exchange gave the session an interactive, engaging quality, as students moved from passive listening to active questioning and learning.

The session aligns with GIIS Nagpur's broader focus on holistic, skill-based learning under the GIIS 9 GEMS framework, which encourages students to explore creative and expressive skills alongside academics. By introducing students to photography as a storytelling tool rather than just a technical skill, the session helped nurture creative thinking and visual awareness among the students.

Sessions like these give students exposure to real-world professionals and industries, helping them see how classroom learning connects to practical, everyday skills. For many students, the interaction with a working photographer offered a glimpse into a creative career path they may not have considered before.
