Encouraging students to engage with visual storytelling in a meaningful and structured manner, GIIS Nagpur organised a Photography Workshop in collaboration with the Nikon School of Creativity. The session offered a valuable platform for young learners to explore the fundamentals of photography while developing a deeper appreciation for creative expression.
The workshop was conducted by Arya Chitra, a distinguished photographer and educator associated with the Nikon Youth and Kids Programme. With extensive experience in designing photography and media initiatives for students, she brought both expertise and perspective to the session, seamlessly blending technical knowledge with creative insight. Through her work with Nikon India, she continues to contribute to the growth of visual literacy programmes across educational institutions.
Students from Grades 5 to 8 participated enthusiastically, gaining hands-on exposure to essential photography techniques such as camera handling, composition, framing, and the use of light. The session was thoughtfully curated to be interactive, encouraging students to observe their surroundings more closely and translate their perspectives into compelling visual narratives.
A notable aspect of the workshop was the active involvement of parents, whose presence added a collaborative dimension to the learning experience. Their participation not only supported the students but also enhanced the overall engagement and enthusiasm within the session.
In recognition of creativity and technical understanding, three students—Shreesh Kale, V. Lakshan Sai, and Saavi Deshpande—were awarded for their outstanding photographic work. Their efforts reflected a strong grasp of the concepts introduced, along with an emerging sense of individual style.
Overall, the workshop proved to be an enriching experience, successfully combining structured learning with creative exploration. It served as an important step in nurturing students’ ability to observe, interpret, and express the world around them through the powerful medium of photography.
