World Heritage Day at GIIS Indore

Celebrating World Heritage Day in the most unique way possible, Global Indian International School (GIIS) Indore organized a visit for grade 6 students to one of the most famous heritage sites of the city - the monument of Rajwada, which was the ancient home of the Holkar Dynasty of the Maratha Empire.

Students from 6th standard got a chance to visit the magnificent architecture of the palace and explore the building full of paintings, artefacts, Maratha ornamentation of the Ganesha hall, upper and lower floors made of stone & wood, and the currency that they used during the rule among others. As they moved to the first floor of the palace that has been converted into a museum for the common people to see and experience the culture of the Maratha dynasty, students got a chance to have a closer view of the royal family portraits, arms and ammunition, and the old age Dictaphone and Reneo set used for dictation and sound recording in the ancient era. The most exciting part of the visit was the display of weapons from which the battles were fought. Students felt the essence as they observed the things preserved from the past.

Raj Wada is a historic monument of the erstwhile Holkar dynasty of the Maratha Empire; and a pride of Indore. This seven-storey palace was the residence of the Holkars. It was built in 1749 by Malhar Rao Holkar. It is a combination of Maratha, Mughal and French architectural styles, with an imposing façade that leads into a central courtyard. The garden contains a statue of queen Ahilyabai, serves today as a fine example of royal grandeur.

The visit had an educational side to it as well, as each student comprehended their experience on paper and shared their learning from the visit. After all, learning when combined both theoretically and practically reaps great results.
