Quiz contests are a great way of analysing how well one understands a subject and correlates the theoretical knowledge with its practical application in real life. It encourages students to stretch their knowledge horizons and look beyond what they are taught in class.
Easier said than done, maths quiz is an excellent way of finding how well the apprentices understand its concepts, and use them in their regular life. To promote and encourage a fun way of learning among students, Global Indian International School (GIIS), Indore organized a maths quiz for students of grades 6-8. The quiz was conducted in a 1 hour special event where a team of 3 students from each house (I.e. Hibiscus, Orchid, Sunflower, and Chrysanthemum) participated with full excitement and vitality.
Omni Marwah of grade 9 was the quiz master for the day. Total of four rounds were conducted on themes like generic questions, visual rounds, aptitude round and rapid fire round, to test students’ knowledge on the subject. To begin with, Abhijeet Solanki from grade 8 read the set of rules for each round followed by the quiz master beginning the quiz in the most fun and energetic way. Students from grades 6-9 made a cheerful audience for the quiz, adding that element of excitement and upbeat to the show.
Towards the end of the quiz, an audience round was conducted to encourage participation from the students sitting in audience, giving them a chance to test their understanding of the mathematical concepts. After the thrilling audience round, the results were declared with Sunflower house winning the contest with 18 points followed by 1st runners-up – Orchid house with 15 points.
The objective of conducting this quiz competition was to enable students of different age groups to think out of the box, promote team play, map growth levels in the particular subject, improving their knowledge and learning from their counterparts, besides building competitive spirit among the teams.
