24th January,2015 : GIIS, Indore organised the IIIrd Annual Sports Meet 2014-15 with an objective to develop the spirit of sportsmanship in the students and to display their level of physical fitness. The event commenced at 9:30 A.M. by escorting the dignitaries to the sports venue. Chief Guest for the event was Mr. M. I. Qureshi, Ex-Director Physical Education and Sports, DAVV and esteem guests like Mr. K S Raghuwanshi, Senior Branch Manager (LIC), Mr.C K Chouhan, Asst. Branch Manager(LIC), Mr. Dileep Pariyani, Senior Agent (LIC), Mr. Sumit Suri and Mr. Hemant Suri, infrastructure partner of GIIS Indore campus.
Ms. Vaishali Borde, National Head Co-scholastics was also present on this occasion. The programme started with a devotional song, ‘Saraswati Vandana’ sung by Ms.Neha, Music teacher GIIS Indore and garlanding of the idol of the Goddess of knowledge, Saraswati by all guests to mark the day which was coinciding with Saraswati Puja. Naman Jain, Head Boy of GIIS Indore welcomed the august gathering. The Sports Meet was declared open by lighting of the torch by Mr. Qureshi and the school council members. This was followed by March Past of students from Sunflower, Chrysanthemum, Orchid and Hibiscus houses led by the Head Boy, Head Girl and the Sports Captain. The house captains held their flags with pride. The school council and the students took an oath of fair play which they repeated after Mr. Qureshi. Prize distribution by LIC team for the outstanding performance in academics in the session 2013-14 motivated the fellow students. It was followed by a speech by Mr. Raghuwanshi Senior Branch Manager (LIC).
The sports event kicked off with Jalebi Race by tiny tots of Nursery class. Next was the Circuit Race for KG I, School Bag & Baton Race for KG II and 100m Race for class I. The parents were overjoyed to see their wards competing on the tracks. To add on to their and everyone’s excitement Three-legged Race, Sack Race, Relay Race and Flat Race for the classes II, III, IV, V, VI and VII respectively kept the audience engaged. Cheering and boosting by the fellow classmates encouraged them to push their boundaries. The fun part was the ‘Tug of War’ by mothers. Parents participated in all the games and enjoyed themselves. Overall arrangement of the entire sports day was coordinated by Mr. Dinesh Patel, Mr. Dayaram, Mr. Rahul-sports coaches of the school.
In the series of events, the most awaited moment was addressing of parents and students by Ms. Vaishali Borde. Her speech emphasised on academics and all-round development of the students. The new faculty members of GIIS Indore, Ms.Priyashri Dubey, English teacher, Ms. Shweta Vyas, Hindi teachers and Ms. Ritu Sen, Pre-Primary teacher were introduced to the parents who expressed their vision for GIIS. Ms. Borde took the opportunity to announce the joining of the new Principal of GIIS Indore, Captain Dr. Dinesh Kumari Bharadwaj. Capt. Bharadwaj inspired the students by speaking on grooming the children as leaders those who are global by status but Indian at heart. Her words of wisdom enthralled the audience.
The programme continued with the Pot Race and spoon & marble race for the supporting staff. Excellent demonstration of Physical Training, Yoga formations and Karate were presented by the students. Aerobics by pre-primary students was a surprise package which won the heart of everyone.
Prize distribution by Mr. Qureshi, Mr. Suri, Ms. Borde for the winners of national and state level championships along with the winners of the Sports Day was extremely encouraging for the students. After the retreat by school council members, the Chief Guest declared the meet closed. The flag was handed over to Ms. Abha Raj, Academic Coordinator and Mr.Dinesh Patel, Sports In-charge. Tushita Kulshreshtha, the Head Girl offered vote of thanks. The entire event was compered by teachers; Mr. Darryl Noronah and Ms.Shweta Vyas. The entire school including academic and non-academic staff participated to the make the Sports Meet a success.
