Global Students Exchange Program
‘Rock,’ a dead and lifeless object was brought to life in the most innovative fashion by the students of GIIS Ahmedabad and GIIS Malaysia during the Global Student Exchange program. "My life as a Metamorphic rocks”, a common project was given to students of grade VI from GIIS Kuala Lumpur and GIIS Ahmedabad campuses. While Team GIIS Ahmedabad related the process of rock formation to that of building of human values by connecting the spiritual transformation of Mahatma Gandhi as an epitome of universal values making a difference to mankind to the physical transformation of the solid rock and its effect on the universe; Team GIIS Kuala Lumpur presented the entire rock formation process through the eyes of geologists which involved documentation, marking, creating mock lab status and rocks. They further dramatized the presentation by playing recorded interviews as TV highlights and shared point of views and read out mock thesis papers to complete the loop.
GIIS Ahmedabad Campus presented ‘The Taj Mahal’, a symbol of love and beauty carved on a white marble stone; the entire process of transformation of rocks from one form to another and the formation of the beautiful metamorphic marble rock was presented by the students in the form of a role-play. Every rock was personified by the students and they narrated their journey using multiple props like working models of volcanic eruption, charts and pictures to explain the life cycle of a rock from birth till it came to its final stage.
The most significant feature of the presentation was when they showed their understanding and application of knowledge on the topic by presenting a poem on Mahatma Gandhi titled “Bapu’s Life as Metamorphic Rock” depicting his entire life story from birth till death and just like a metamorphic rock he transformed himself from “Mohan to Mahatma’. The students displayed confidence and impressed the panel with their creativity and depth of knowledge.
Students were fascinated to see the presentation made by their counterpart from Malaysia campus and appreciated the same.
Taking the knowledge beyond the boundaries of the text books and examination and applying the same in ones daily life has always been an endeavour of the teachers at GIIS campus.
