English Literary Week 2021 at East Coast

“There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island.” – Walt Disney

GIIS East Coast campus celebrated the English Literary week from the 19th to the 23rd of April. It was a fun-packed week, with a range of activities where the focus was to develop in students an appreciation for literary works and a love for reading.

The students enjoyed making their mini storybooks through which they told stories of amazing trips to the zoo, days at the beach and happy weekends. They recited poems that had caught their interest, made posters about their favourite authors, presented folk tales from around the world through PowerPoint, created their comic strips and wrote dialogues between their favourite storybook characters. They participated in debates, transformation turncoat and extempore through which they presented their heartfelt opinions on different topics. They took trips to imaginary places and met imaginary friends as they dropped everything and just read! They have generously started donating books to form their very own class libraries.

To conclude our English Literary Week and in commemoration of World Book Day, our students dressed up as storybook characters and had virtual sessions with the author, Ms Noella Menon and Ms Nurul Husna Ghali, an associate librarian from the Children & Teens team in the National Library Board (NLB). Colourful posters prepared by our students, providing information about the storybook character they had come dressed up as, now adorn the walls, cupboards and windows of their classrooms.
