EC campus holds Safety Awareness Week 2021

Safety Awareness Week 2021, 26th to 30th of April 2021, held at Global Indian International School, East Coast campus, and led by Mr Dzul of the Physical Education Department, was organized to create and increase awareness of the importance of Safety and Health in school. Factors like corridor and outdoor safety were emphasized upon greatly due to the model and circumstances within the campus itself.

A 15 minutes talk was conducted by Mr Dzul and attended by all classes on the 29th of April 2021, 9.10am during which the knowledge of hazards and information on the different aspects of safety and risk assessment were shared. Details which commonly occur on campus like lightning alerts and wet floors were emphasized as students were commonly found outdoors during breaks, PE and their recess, playing games and sports which in themselves have their own assessment of risk.

As Singapore is an island country lying near the equator, the weather here is hot and humid, creating conditions that are favorable for lightning and thunderstorm clouds.

An average of 168 thunderstorm days per year, makes Singapore one of the highest lightning prone regions in the world.

Students were also given the task of creating posters or short skits which reflect their understanding and knowledge of Safety. The best chosen works and pieces will be displayed throughout the school for public viewing and display.
