Students learn about the Phases of Moon with Oreo biscuit

Activity-based learning at GIIS Bannerghatta SMART campus is imparted with the right thought in practice where our students are sensitized about the process of learning by doing. These activities encourage students to actively participate in their own learning experience through practical activities such as problem-solving and independent exploration.

Students of Grades 1 and 2 learnt the lesson about the Universe, in the Environmental Studies class, consisting of the Sun, the Moon, the Stars, and the Earth in an interesting way. The students found it very interesting to study about the moon and the changing shapes of the moon. The teacher triggered the curiosity of the students by explaining that each night the moon looks a bit different because of the position of the moon between the Sun and the Earth. Sometimes it seems like the moon has gone dark, but some nights it is bright and full.

As part of the experiential learning exercise, the students were made to learn the phases of the moon through an interesting activity using the Oreo biscuits. The children displayed the different shapes of the moon by carving out the white cream inside the Oreo biscuit, the Full moon, Gibbous moon, Half moon, Crescent moon, and New moon. Children discovered a new way of learning through a simple biscuit activity. The love for Oreo made the session fun-filled and at the same time tempting as they could eat their favorite biscuit joyfully after the activity was over. It was truly an adventurous learning experience for all the students.
