Remembering the Mahatma: GIIS Bannerghatta celebrates 152nd Gandhi Jayanti

"In a gentle way, you can shake the world", this quote truly embodies the essence of Mahatma Gandhi’s principles and teachings. His noble beliefs and virtues have stood on the test of time and become crucial lessons for all of us to lead an ideal life. GIIS with its Mahatma Gandhi Centre for Universal Values (MGCUV), holds the Gandhi Jayanti event with the greatest reverence every year to celebrate and relive Gandhian values.

On the occasion of 152nd Gandhi Jayanti, the GIIS Bannerghatta family soaked itself in the Gandhian spirit in plenty of ways. Gandhiji was an iconic figure and a lot of symbols like the Charkha, spectacles and his distinguished walking stick are synonymous with his ethos. Our Pre-primary students showed their obeisance towards the “Father of the Nation” by donning handcrafted spectacles, wielding the stick and weaving magic through miniature Charkhas.

Grade 1 students made an innovative display of the "Three wise monkeys", representing Gandhi Ji's principle- "see no evil, hear no evil, and speak no evil" through ice cream sticks.

Grade 2 students learnt about Khadi, its evolution and the wonders of wearing this humble, yet attractive fabric. They walked the ramp dressed up in Khadi finery and in a true sense “walked the talk" highlighting the significance of sustainable clothing.

Grade 3 students honed their artistic skills further by trying out various crafts through the medium of the Three Monkeys and lofty messages.

Grade 4 students exercised their critical thinking skills by answering the hypothetical question “What if there was a fourth Monkey, what would it stand for?” They also undertook a quiz on Bapu’s life and events.

Grade 5 students were asked to speak on the topic- “Why is Gandhi my favourite National Hero”. It was a spontaneous exercise and the students eloquently elucidated their thoughts with the rest of their classmates. They were also familiarized with Gandhiji’s role in India’s freedom movement and his stint in South Africa.

Grade 6 students put their thoughts on paper on the topic "Gandhian Values in Today’s Scenario." Children wrote lucidly and succinctly about what Gandhi Ji's teachings mean to them and how his core values hold good in today's world.

Gandhi Jayanti celebration was a memorable event dedicated to our "Bapu" who not only contributed immensely to India's freedom struggle but also became a global leader educating the world about the importance of peaceful and harmonious living. On this occasion, the GIIS Bannerghatta family vowed to follow the path shown by Gandhiji and pledged to adapt his principles in every aspect of their lives.
