We have all noticed as parents and educators that a child learns far more from a single day out in the real world than from an entire week of staring at a textbook. The best way to spark true curiosity is to let young minds experience professional creativity firsthand.
With this exact belief in mind, the Career Counselling and University Guidance (CCUG) Team at GIIS Ahmedabad recently organised an exciting, immersive educational visit to the prestigious National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad. This hands-on trip brought 120 of our Grade 11 and 12 students right into the heart of India's leading design campus.
Envisioned and strongly encouraged by our Principal, Mr. Caesar D'Silva, the visit focused on breaking the old stereotype that successful careers exist only in traditional academic streams.
Our higher secondary students spent the day stepping inside active design laboratories and high-tech studios. This experience gave them a handy, practical advantage. They got to speak directly with faculty mentors and discover fast-evolving fields, such as Animation, Film Design, Industrial Design, and Textile and Apparel Design.
Beyond learning about different specialisations, our students had the unique opportunity to explore actual portfolios and projects made by NID students. This equipped them with a clear visual benchmark of what top-tier creative work looks like.
Crucially, the visit also provided our students with expert tips on approaching the NID Design Aptitude Test and piecing together a winning portfolio.
This trip wasn't only designed for students who love to draw or paint. It served a much larger, strategic purpose for our young learners. In the modern world, creativity is no longer just an artistic hobby; it is an essential problem-solving skill.
Whether a child wants to go into engineering, healthcare, management, or software development, they need the design thinking framework. By exposing our students to this innovative environment, we taught them how to handle a complex societal problem, empathise with people, and design a practical solution.
The trip successfully broadened their understanding of modern career pathways and left our young leaders feeling motivated, self-aware, and exceptionally confident about their next big steps.
At GIIS Ahmedabad, we are not just teaching our children to pass examinations; we are giving them the clarity, creativity, and confidence to shape the future
