Teaching young children the value of emotional mindfulness is one of the most meaningful gifts a school can offer. Recently, our multi-purpose hall transformed into a space of reflection and joy as the young learners of Class 2B (Afternoon Shift) presented an extraordinary special assembly on World Peace Day. It was centred around kindness, empathy, and peaceful living.
The programme began with a refreshing twist as Academic Coordinator Ms. Bhavisha Shah led the children through light stretching exercises, helping everyone settle into a focused, receptive state. Student anchors then welcomed the audience and shared warm insights into why World Peace Day matters before guiding their peers through the school prayer.
A musical rendition followed. It included a touching vocal performance and a short speech explaining how melodies can soothe our thoughts and connect people across different cultures. Yet, the definitive highlight of the afternoon was a remarkable play titled "The World Needs a Pause Button."
The young actors portrayed common human reactions with charming honesty, such as frustration, anger, and indifference. They contrasted them with polite, gentle responses. The story illustrated how stepping back to take a breath before speaking can defuse tension and transform everyday misunderstandings.
The message was so clear and deeply moving that the entire hall, including the leadership team, rose to give the young cast a standing ovation. A vibrant, high-energy dance performance followed, filling the atmosphere with bright smiles and cheerful rhythm.
The assembly earned glowing praise from the GIIS leadership team. Principal Mr. Caesar D’Silva, Vice Principal Ms. Ronak Purohit, and Academic Coordinator Ms. Bhavisha Shah commended the students for their extraordinary emotional maturity and confidence on stage.
In their interactions with the children, the leaders highlighted how taking a moment to listen, choosing polite words, and keeping a cool head during challenging times allows us to resolve conflicts smoothly and maintain inner balance.
At GIIS Ahmedabad, platforms like these align closely with our GIIS 9GEMs framework, particularly Universal Values & Ethics and Personality Development. By creating spaces where seven-year-olds can explore empathy and self-regulation through visual performing arts, we help them build vital life skills alongside academic learning.
The heartwarming gathering ended with a simple yet lasting lesson: peace does not start with grand gestures across the world, but within our daily habits. Every quiet moment of reflection, every kind word, and every gentle response builds a happier, more compassionate school community.
