Students celebrated Van Mahotsav with full enthusiasm for a better and greener tomorrow

AHMEDABAD, 28 JULY. 2018 - American author Lucy Larcom once rightly said that, "He who plants a tree - Plants a hope."

Van Mahotsav, or the festival of greenery is not new to the land of a thousand cultures - India. It is a 66-year-old traditional process initiated by K.M. Munshi, the then Union Minster for Agriculture and Food, in order to contribute towards the dwindling green cover.

With an aim to carry on this legacy forward and sensitize the students about their responsibilities towards Mother Earth, every year the students of Global Indian International School, Ahmedabad plant saplings in an attempt to create a cleaner and greener tomorrow.

An assembly was conducted in order to celebrate Van Mahotsav which began with a soulful prayer. A beautiful and meaningful skit by the students showcased the importance of plants and how human beings were dependent on them for survival.

During the occasion, the principal, Mr. Caesar D’silva, explained to the children about the value and benefits of planting trees and how we all should plant saplings and take a step forward towards a better tomorrow.

The students, later, made spheres out of mud and placed tiny seeds within them and left them to dry completely, after which they were sown.

This activity brought the children to realize the importance of trees and how they can contribute in safeguarding the environment this way.
