Students celebrated International Yoga day with full enthusiasm

International Yoga Day was celebrated at the Global Indian International School Ahmedabad Campus in June 2018, with a huge participation from students of all age groups, including teachers and all staff members.

Our honorable prime minster, Mr. Narendra Modi, rightly explains Yoga as an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition that embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help in well-being.”

Hence, on this auspicious occasion, and as a part of GIIS Leadership Lecture Series, two well-known Yoga Maestros were invited to GIIS Ahmedabad to share their knowledge and spread positivity. The Program was conducted in two segments, one for the children of Grade 4 to 5 and the other for the children of Grade 6 to 10.

The first session for grades 4 and 5 was taken by Mr. Dheeraj Kumar Baliyan, who is currently associated with Yog Kendra under Bharatiya Yog Sansthan, India since 2010. The second session for grades 6 to 10 was taken by Mr. Niloayy K Nandi, who has been associated with the “Art of Living” since 2008 and has been conducting various Yoga workshops throughout India since 2009 in collaboration with UNESCO.

The Program began with the lighting of the auspicious lamp of Knowledge by the dignitaries followed by a short video on Surya Namaskar. The students showcased their flexibility with a note-worthy performance of asanas such as the Vrikshasana Parvatasana, Padmasana and Vajrasana.

Later, the guests took a session for the children while explaining to them the importance and benefits of Yoga and showing them manifold postures for peaceful meditation.

The students participated enthusiastically and claimed that it was a rejuvenating experience for them. The Principal, Mr. Caesar D’silva honoured the guests by presenting them with Mementos symbolizing Gandhian values as well as a Tulsi Sapling.
