Harmony Over Hatred: GIIS Ahmedabad Grade 5D Assembly Reimagines Peace Education

True education extends far beyond textbook learning; it shapes young minds to navigate an increasingly complex world with emotional resilience and empathy. At GIIS Ahmedabad, nurturing global citizenship begins with intentional, reflective experiences that empower students to become compassionate leaders.  ~ Principal, Mr Caesar D’Silva, GIIS Ahmedabad.

The morning shift students of Grade 5D presented a powerfully moving class assembly focused on a thought-provoking theme of Peace Day: Harmony over Hatred.

The assembly commenced with an engaging focus exercise led by Coordinator Ms. Anila James. It ensured all students were mentally present while reinforcing the integral role of personal discipline. She urged students to reduce screen time. She encouraged young learners to trade digital distractions for active physical play, co-curricular pursuits, and genuine human connections that keep the mind fresh and focused.

This thoughtful introduction seamlessly transitioned into a quiet meditation session, teaching children that lasting harmony in the external world begins with cultivating tranquillity within the soul. After that, a storytelling educational video recounting a story from Hiroshima was screened. The narrative resonated deeply throughout the hall, connecting historical lessons of peace to modern daily life. It seamlessly transitioned to the school morning prayer.

Following that, students delivered a structured series of presentations, including the thought of the day, a reflective peace poem, national & global news updates, and an insightful speech on global peace.

The artistic highlights unfolded through a soulful song performance and an eye-opening skit that demonstrated how choosing calmness over conflict can diffuse challenging life situations. Complementing the drama, an expressive dance performance challenged the audience to abandon impulse and rudeness in favour of composed, empathetic communication.

Addressing the gathering, Principal Mr Caesar D'Silva praised the young performers for delivering a life-changing message with remarkable maturity and conviction. Adding to this vision, Vice-Principal Ms Ruchika Dhingra reminded students that once spoken, words cannot be recalled. She urged everyone to practice polite behaviour, cultivate mindfulness before speaking, and maintain unity across campus.

By merging artistic expression with character building, GIIS Ahmedabad continues to demonstrate how holistic learning nurtures socially conscious individuals. When children learn to choose understanding over anger, they lay the foundation for a kinder, more peaceful tomorrow.
