The Global Indian International School (GIIS), Ahmedabad took a significant step towards environmental sustainability by organizing a successful Plantation Drive with a vision of contributing towards a greener future and aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG). 

This initiative was aimed at raising awareness about the importance of trees and encouraging students to take proactive measures to protect the environment. GIIS Ahmedabad’s Plantation Drive began with a message from our Principal, Mr. Caesar D’silva, who spoke passionately about the critical role trees play in maintaining ecological balance. He emphasized the need for such initiatives to tackle climate change and preserve the environment for future generations. ‘Planting a tree is an act of hope and responsibility.’ he said to inspire the students.

Students from all grades participated in the plantation drive. The young stars of GIIS Ahmedabad received more than 3000 saplings as a gift for  Mother Earth from our dear Principal. The initiative was led by Vice Principal, Ms. Ronak Purohit, who was responsible for sharing the saplings and plants in areas near their home. 

To make it a memorable experience, students with ‘Best Attire of the Day’ and ‘Best Slogan for Climate Action’ were well-appreciated. Following the plantation drive, students enthusiastically shared snapshots of their involvement through social media posts and emails. Many of them shared their shared sense of pride and accomplishment in contributing to the plantation drive. Dev Patel, a grade 4  student said, “It feels amazing to know that the tree I grow today will grow and help the environment.” 

GIIS Ahmedabad’s Plantation Drive is a shining example of how educational institutions can lead the way in promoting sustainability. By engaging students, teachers, parents and the community, the school has taken a meaningful step towards creating a greener and healthier future.

As Mr. Caesar D’silva, Principal said, “Each tree planted today is a promise of a better tomorrow.” GIIS Ahmedabad’s dedication to sustainability serves as an inspiration for other schools and communities to undertake similar green initiatives, contributing to a more sustainable planet for generations to come.
