Mahatma Gandhi Centre for Universal Values (MGCUV) was inaugurated by D. Justice C. S. Dharmadhikari , President of Global Schools Foundation. A Former Chief Justice and an advocate of peace and equality, Dr. Dharmadhikari believes in Gandhian values and holds the trusteeship of several Mahatma Gandhi foundations. He has been honoured with the Padma Bhushan - one of India’s highest civilian honours - in 2004. MGCUV, is his endeavour that has fructified in promoting value-based education to all students of GIIS across the globe. Every GIIS campus has the statue of Mahatma Gandhi as a symbol of the core values that the school chain follows.

The curriculum for MGCUV is developed internally, based on a selection of extracts from the matrix of books written by Mahatma Gandhi and other global thought leaders. It helps students to get insights into the depth of universal values that this great man embodied. The programme is created on an activity-based framework with age-level content and practical learning through a series of symposia, workshops, interactions and exhibitions to not only realize the vision of the centre, but also to educate and sensitise the region.

MGCUV at GIIS Ahmedabad is modelled after Gandhiji’s Sabarmati Ashram; which is the pride of Gujarat and it was indeed an honour to have been mentored by the Guest of Honour, Sri. Amruth Bhai Modi, Director- Sabarmati Ashram in creating a similar ambience. On the eve of the inauguration, he assured the GIIS team that he would constantly guide and help the school in shaping the moral values of its students.

The students presented a beautiful cultural programme through patriotic songs, dance and play to deliver the message of peace, equality, honesty, humanity, brotherhood and preservation of mother earth.

Mr. Anil Das, Head Marketing, Godrej Properties represented the infrastructure partner of GIIS. He said, “There is an ethereal environment in the centre and I am glad to have witnessed this special moment.”

Dr. Dharmadhikari spoke of the connection of the Godrej family with Gandhi and how they valued and supported Gandhi in his non-violence movement. He urged the parents, staff and the Godrej residents to create a clean and hygienic environment for the young ones. He advocated that the first step is to take ownership of maintaining a clean environment at home. An ideal living abode is where green is promoted; thus natural flora and fauna would enhance the hygiene neighbourhood. He also requested parents and grandparents to together build a ‘familistic’ society for the harmonious growth of the children within the family as well as in the society which is representation of the world at large.

“My life is my message; was said by Gandhiji and I have also tried to follow his teachings throughout my life and have largely benefited from them.” said Dr. Justice Dharmadhikari. Mr. Rajeev Katyal, Country Director GIIS India, Ms. Vaishali Borde, National Coordinator for ECA & CCA , GIIS India and Mr. Neelam Mankad, Princial Global Indian Mahatma Gandhi Ekalavya School were present on the auspicious occasion.

Mr. Caesar D’silva, Principal GIIS Ahmedabad thanked Dr. Dharmadhikari for sharing valuable insights and also the entire staff and management for the successful launch of the centre and promised to promote the centre that would make a difference to every individual’s life.
