In a remarkable display of teamwork and collaboration, GIIS Ahmedabad students from Grades 4-12 participated in a plantation drive. With a shared vision of contributing to a greener future and aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), the young champions of the school planted around 2,500 saplings in areas near their homes.

The objective of the initiative was to showcase the school’s dedication and commitment to environmental preservation while encouraging students to understand the power of collaborative action and execution.

GIIS Ahmedabad’s plantation drive was a powerful movement aimed at creating a positive impact on the environment. It gave students an opportunity to understand the need of the hour i.e. conserving our forests and natural resources. It also involved sensitizing them about the efforts/actions required to reduce pollution and waste, conserve plants and maintain an ecological balance. 

The drive was organized under the supervision and coordination of Mr. Shailendra Aggarwal (Senior Coordinator, Grade 9 to 12) and Mr. Dilip Nagar (TGT-SST). This plantation drive served as a perfect medium to educate students about the sustainable development goals, and various green initiatives supported by the school. The school administration diligently provided guidance in collaboration with Rampur Village Nursery, the provider of the saplings for the initiative.

Following the plantation campaign, students enthusiastically shared snapshots of their involvement through messages and emails. Various educators and students conveyed their perspectives on the preservation of plant and animal life, utilizing the mediums of poetry, narratives, and orations.

Students also channelled their expression through creative slogans, banners, and posters pledging their commitment to enhancing the city's verdant landscape.

Mr. Caesar D’silva - Principal, GIIS Ahmedabad congratulated and encouraged the students and teachers for this program. He said, “GIIS Ahmedabad is extremely delighted with the achievement of distributing 2500 plants to the students as a part of the green initiative. Along with academics and sports excellence, GIIS Ahmedabad provides ample opportunities to understand the importance of the environment. Our planet Earth is home to every living organism and we must take utmost care of our actions which may harm them.”

The participation of students from Grades 4 to 12 ensured a diverse range of perspectives and a united front in the fight against environmental degradation. The initiative served as a unique platform for students across different age groups to collaborate, share ideas, and learn from one another. It also highlighted the power of youth engagement in addressing global challenges.
