It was a proud moment for GIIS Ahmedabad to have its very own talented music prodigy Neev Kanani featuring in an episode of the GIIS podcast - The SMART Cast. Neev Kanani was accompanied by his mother Mrs. Bhumika Kanani. The podcast interview was hosted by Ms. Khushbu Singh from GIIS Ahmedabad.
14-year-old Neev is a passionate singer, trained in Classical and Bollywood music. He had started singing at the age of 6, and there has been no looking back since then. Besides learning music from his mentors privately, Neev also is among the first batch of graduating students from the GIIS-Shekhar Ravjiani School of Music, which celebrated its first anniversary on 22nd June 2021. Since he started singing, Neev has participated in various competitions and singing shows and has a showcase full of achievements to his name. He was a quarter-finalist in the National Singing Competition- India’s Next Master Kids and a finalist in the TV reality show -Bhavyanjali. He had also qualified internationally as a young storyteller to present inspiring stories about India, using singing as a medium. In his interview, he shared that his achievements are a result of his hard work and dedication, and not just the gift of voice that he has received. He wishes to become a playback singer and sing soul-stirring songs for everyone to enjoy.
On being asked about how he feels to have graduated from the GIIS – Shekhar School of Music and is the only student from India, Neev shared that it was a dream come true and it felt as if his hard work and perseverance were acknowledged. What he was fascinated with, was the fact that he would get an opportunity to interact with his very role model, music director Shekhar Ravjiani. Sharing his experience about learning music with Mr. Shekhar Ravjiani, he stated that the guidance and the training given at the Music School has helped him tremendously to escalate his passion and get trained by one of the best musicians in India. The grueling riyaaz as he called it, was the best part and the tips shared to work on his breath. Neev shared that the last-day experience at the Music school was as exciting and fresh as the first day.
Neev’s advice to all music aspirants is to work hard and never look back. According to him, the key to success is hard work and practice. He shared the motto of his mentor ‘Riyaaz karega to raaj karega’. Sharing Neev’s musical journey and its progress, Neev’s mother felt elated and proud. She gave credit to the school teachers who first identified this unique talent in Neev when he was in his early school days in Kindergarten. She further shared that GIIS Ahmedabad and the entire family had been extremely supportive and encouraging and their contribution to Neev’s success can never be forgotten.
Being a student, it also becomes difficult at times to manage the balance between one’s ‘Passion of Music’ and ‘Academics’. Neev shared that he has been equally passionate and sincere towards his academics and never missed out on any of his exams. In fact, he has always passed all his Assessments with flying colours. When asked about his inspiration in singing, he shared that he gets inspired by the legend of all times, Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, and Shekhar Ravjiani. He gave great credit to Shekhar Ravjiani for actually perfectly shaping him.
Mr. Caesar D’silva, Principal, GIIS Ahmedabad congratulated Neev Kanani on the occasion and showered him with lots of blessings and wishes for a bright future ahead as an aspiring singer.
Sharing the key of confidence with his audience, holding high regard for GIIS Ahmedabad for the encouragement, and paying gratitude to his parents, Neev concluded his interview with a wonderful musical song, ‘Kisi Ki Muskurahato Pe Ho Nisaar’.
