From Tiny Seeds to Big Green Dreams: Inside Grade 2’s Beautiful Van Mahotsav Celebration

Relationship with nature is one of the most essential life lessons a child can learn. To bring this value to life, the GIIS Ahmedabad Multi-Purpose Hall turned into a vibrant green space. Our young students from Grade 2C AS hosted a beautiful morning assembly dedicated to Van Mahotsav, India’s annual tree-planting festival.

The assembly opened with a thoughtful message from our young speakers, who confidently explained why trees are truly the “lungs of the Earth.” Using simple words and relatable examples, these Grade 2 students reminded the audience that forests silently work every day to provide us with clean air, water, shade, and shelter. Watching such young children speak with such clarity and confidence is a testament to how our public speaking initiatives help even our youngest students find their voice on stage.

The emotional heart of the morning was a touching skit titled "A Tree’s Story." Through simple dialogues and innocent expressions, the young actors traced the beautiful journey of a tree, from a tiny seed resting in the soil to a massive, sheltering giant. The performance brought smiles to everyone's faces while delivering a profound, undeniable truth: if we save trees, trees will save us. By using drama to teach conservation, our students learned to empathise with nature, turning an ordinary school lesson into a lifelong value.

The creative energy continued as the entire cohort of Grade 2C AS stood together to perform the song, “Plant, Learn, Pledge.” The hall echoed with their joyful voices as they sang about planting saplings, conserving water, and keeping the Earth clean. This was followed by a graceful dance performance where students, dressed in earthy green outfits, celebrated the beauty of leaves, rivers, birds, and sunshine through their energetic movements.

The most powerful moment of the day came at the very end with the Green Pledge. Students, teachers, and parents stood in unison and raised their hands to promise to plant trees, save water, conserve electricity, and protect the planet.

At GIIS, this collective pledge represents our broader educational philosophy. We aren't just teaching children to pass exams; we are partnering with families to raise a mindful, responsible generation that actively works to grow a better, greener tomorrow
