Students of GIIS Balewadi pledged to promote an eco-friendly Diwali

The pre-primary wing of Global Indian International School (GIIS),  Balewadi celebrated the festival of Diwali through a virtual assembly conducted to sensitize the students about the significance of the festivities. The little munchkins were dressed in colorful attires during the celebrations and happily wished everyone an auspicious Diwali ahead. The tiny stars of the school even made colorful lamps and diyas for their near and dear ones.

The students were very excited for the celebrations and participated with full enthusiasm in the activities planned. During the virtual session, teachers shared the importance of the festival and explained why the day is celebrated by the Hindus and other religions in India, and across the country by Indians. They also shared that Diwali is known as the festival of light, as it celebrates the triumph of good over evil.

Diwali is celebrated across the country with lots of enthusiasm and spirit. People light up their homes with candles, lights and make rangoli to decorate their houses on the occasion. The festival does bring a lot of happiness and family time for everyone, but it also brings a lot of air and noise pollution with cracker bursting. The tiny tots of the school were encouraged by the teachers to celebrate the festival in an eco-friendly way by lighting diyas made of mud and clay, by using oil and cotton strings, and by not bursting crackers.

The week-long celebration started with various activities suggested by the coordinator. Students also participated actively in the activities suggested. The theme of the celebration was given to all the students beforehand to help in the smooth functioning of the event.

On the day of the celebrations, our kids planned and shared some of their ideas and carefully arranged all the materials required to make Diwali lamps and diyas. They were all very enthusiastic as such tasks are often done by the elders. they felt proud and responsible for the task they completed on behalf of their family members. All the students were seen happy and they were enjoying the celebration by decorating their homes in the most special way.

Furthermore, the students also pledged and requested everyone to celebrate the festival in an eco-friendly way. It was indeed a delightful experience for the students, teachers, and parents.
