Nearly 2,000 students started their semester at the SMART Campus of the Global Indian International School which started operations at Punggol in July 2018.

Students from Nursery to Grade 12 arrived at the sprawling campus which has of 92 classrooms, more than 40 science & skills-based labs, digitally-savvy classrooms and data analytics facility in sports.

The campus has been buzzing with activity as students returned after their month-long June summer break, and were introduced to the new campus. Students from erstwhile Queenstown Campus, erstwhile Balestier Campus and secondary section of the East Coast Campus have been merged into the SMART Campus which will have latest teaching and learning methodologies like Virtual Classrooms, Learning Commons etc.

Students arrived at the campus by school buses, private cars and taxis, and – barring a few glitches - were guided through a well-managed signalling system to the disembarking area at the bus bay on Level 1. Using facilities like RAG traffic lights, zebra crossing, and escorted by staff and faculty members, the students were ushered to their respective classrooms. Volunteers stationed outside the lift lobby at each level help younger students to their classrooms.

The three new cafeterias were also operational during the short and long recess, where students were served Indian and Asian food. Many who got food from home made use of the huge cafeteria spaces to sit with their friends and enjoy their lunch.

A voice over system managed the school bells and a Digital Signage System guided children to their buses at the end of the day.

“I am happy to start this school semester in the new school. It is so big and cool,” said student Ashwin. He further said he was looking forward to exploring the school premises and enjoying all the learning and recreational facilities soon.
