Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do.” - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
This spirit guided the Women’s Self-Defense session held at GIIS Bannerghatta, aimed at building confidence, awareness, and personal safety among participants. Led by Mr. Ashish Kumar, a karate champion and gold medalist, the session combined practical techniques with engaging demonstrations, encouraging participants to not just learn but actively apply their skills in real-life situations.
Beginning with simple warm-up exercises, participants gradually moved into step-by-step training in self-defense techniques. They learnt how to block, maintain balance, and react quickly in different situations. Through live demonstrations, the coach explained how these techniques can be applied in practical situations, making it easier for participants to understand and practise.
A key part of the session was the hands-on guidance, where the coach worked closely with participants, helping them practise each movement correctly. He demonstrated techniques such as knee strikes and defensive stances while explaining the importance of body positioning and timing.
Focus was also placed on basic safety awareness, including the dos and don’ts to keep in mind in challenging situations. This helped participants feel more prepared and aware of how to respond when needed.
With an emphasis on situational awareness and preparedness, the session ended as a peak experience for all involved. By covering the maximum techniques possible, participants left skilled, alert, and confident in navigating daily life safely and effectively.
