GIIS Bannerghatta recently hosted a Dandiya Night, bringing students, parents and teachers together to celebrate a much-loved festive tradition. The event was held in the school auditorium, which was filled with colour as students arrived with their parents, all dressed in traditional garba attire. Girls wore bright chaniya cholis, and everyone looked excited for the evening ahead.
The programme began with a musical performance by the students of GIIS Bannerghatta, who sang festive songs with confidence. Their singing set a cheerful mood and was received with warm applause from the audience.
Next, the teachers took the stage with group dance performances, followed by a solo dance by one of the teachers. The children enjoyed watching their teachers perform and cheered them on. After the performances, a live DJ took over the music. As the dandiya beats grew livelier, parents, students and teachers danced in circles with their sticks, while others gathered around to clap and enjoy the fun.
There were many other activities for guests to enjoy. Food stalls served popular snacks such as gup-chup, bhelpuri and corn chaat. Children could get their faces painted, have mehendi applied on their hands, and take photographs at the festive photobooth. A lucky draw added to the excitement, and a Best Dressed contest for parents and their companions encouraged everyone to dress up and join in the fun.
The event also reflected the Visual and Performing Arts gem of the 9GEMS framework followed at GIIS. Through music, dance and traditional dress, students and teachers had the chance to showcase their talents and take part in a cultural celebration together.
At the end of the evening, each guest received a complimentary food box containing cupcakes, juice, cookies and patties. Families left with happy memories, and the evening showed how school events can bring a community closer through culture and celebration.
