India is known as the treasure house of green medicinal plants or herbs and since ancient times, natural remedies using them have been popularized in our culture through Ayurveda. The kitchen herbs and green plants not only enhance the flavour of our food but help us in recovering from various diseases without leaving any side effects.

GIIS Ahmedabad observed Green Medicine Day on 22nd February 2021 in fond memory of Kasturba Gandhi, w/o M.K. Gandhi who had made a valuable contribution in creating awareness about the importance of green medicines in our daily lives.

Various activities were conducted as part of the day at GIIS Ahmedabad to sensitize the children about the medicinal values of herbs thereby promoting a healthy lifestyle.

During circle time in class, the respective teachers of Pre Primary to Grade 5 explained the reason behind celebrating Green Medicine Day through an informative PowerPoint presentation and the role of Kasturba Gandhi in promoting green medicines. Thereafter, the students planted herbal saplings along with the parents in their garden and shared pictures with the teachers.

The school also organized a webinar by Ms. Mayuri Thakkar and Ms. Daksha Madhu, two prominent Consulting Naturopaths from the city. They explained to the parents and students, the benefits of tulsi, ginger, mint, cumin, coriander, spinach, beetroot leaves, radish leaves, and many more medicinal plants and spices in improving the immune system.

Mr. Caesar D'silva, Principal, GIIS Ahmedabad said on the occasion, " The objective behind observing this day is to make the students aware about the healing power of our age-old and natural green medicines and to promote a healthy lifestyle among the students."

The students participated with great spirits and enthusiasm.
