Debate tests and builds the ability in students to see both sides of an issue. It requires the students to research their ideas and support them with evidence, teaching them to investigate and assess sources.  Debate teaches them how to persuade others, how to present their ideas clearly, and how to connect with an audience. In a nutshell, it promotes critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity which is required to make them future-ready.

The students of GIIS are regularly provided opportunities to showcase their prowess in debating skills at national and international levels.

Recently, Inter-GIIS Debate Competition (India Campuses) was hosted by GIIS Bannerghatta on 4th September 2021 virtually, for Grades 6 to 12. This competition was part of the larger mega National Debate Competition to be organized during the Valley of Words Annual Festival at Oak Grove School, Mussorie.

It was a great platform for the best debaters from GIIS India Campuses to compete for a spot in the main event to be held at Mussorie. The motion for the Inter GIIS Debate was- ‘COVID has shown us that we can overcome any problem’.

The duo,  Shivam Jadhav from Grade 12 and Dhyey Buch from Grade 9 formed Team GIIS Ahmedabad and they presented their views for and against the motion respectively.

The exciting battle of words saw all the contestants giving each other a tough competition. The debate round was followed by the rebuttal round, where the contestants had to face a volley of questions from the other contestants as well as the judges.

Dhyey Buch from GIIS Ahmedabad secured the first position and was adjudged the Best Speaker. He will now be representing Team GIIS at the National Debate Competition to be held at Mussorie along with the runner-up, Shravil from GIIS Noida.
