The CAS trip to Okinawa, Japan, was organized for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) students of GIIS Tokyo, as part of their Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) requirements.

This enlightening trip aimed to provide the students with opportunities to explore new cultures, participate in physical activities, engage in community service, and develop their creativity. It aligned with the DP core principles of experiential learning, reflection, and global awareness.

- To promote physical activity and well-being among students

- To develop their creativity through glass designing

- To engage students in community service and promote Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

- To provide them with opportunities to explore Okinawan culture and heritage

- To foster teamwork, collaboration, and independence among students

On Day 1, the group departed from Narita International Airport and arrived at Naha Airport by 11:15 am. Upon arrival, the students explored Kokusai Dori, a vibrant and bustling shopping street in Okinawa, and tasted traditional Okinawan dishes. This activity provided an opportunity for students to immerse themselves in local culture and develop their social and cultural awareness.

On Day 2, The group participated in snorkelling, with an experienced instructor, and they got a chance to explore the wonderful waters of Okinawa. In addition to being a fun activity, snorkelling is also a great way to stay physically active and healthy.

The students participated in a beach cleanup activity, where they got a chance to work with NGOs such as the Churumura Sea turtle conservation rangers and the Yomitan beach clean-up organization, to promote SDGs. The experience gave students the chance to learn about the impact of microplastics on sea turtles, about SDGs, and how to work collaboratively with NGOs.

On Day 3, the students participated in a glass designing workshop, where they created their own glass artwork under the guidance of a professional instructor. Later, the group visited the Chaurami Aquarium, where students had the opportunity to explore the aquarium and witness marine life like whale sharks, manta rays, and sea turtles.

Despite the rainy weather, the students remained enthusiastic and engaged in group reflection and discussion. They continued to prepare and cook their meals collaboratively, promoting teamwork and independence.
