The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) aims to promote Indian classical music and culture among the youth. Founded 47 years ago, SPIC MACAY conducts events, workshops, and seminars across schools and colleges in India, and more recently, internationally. The annual International Convention is a significant event that brings together the best of Indian traditional culture, art, music, and dance. This year, the 9th International Convention hosted over 1300 delegates, offering 26 intensives, 70 performances, and featuring 250 artists.

At this event, maestros and eminent artists from various fields such as classical music, art, dance, and drama perform and conduct intensive workshops for all participants. The convention encourages everyone to live in an Ashram-like atmosphere with a well-planned and rigorous schedule to be followed, promoting Indian classical music and culture among the youth.

Attending the SPIC MACAY convention provided our students with a unique and immersive experience. They participated in various workshops and intensives, which included craft workshops like Gond Tribal Painting and performances by maestros in classical music and dance. Through these activities, our students learned about the intricacies of Indian art forms, honing their skills and expanding their cultural awareness.

One of the highlights of the convention was the all-night concert featuring performances by eminent maestros such as Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and Vidushi Sudha Raghunathan. This experience allowed our students to witness world-class performances and gain a deeper appreciation for Indian classical arts.

The convention also offered a heritage tour of Chennai, where our students visited significant landmarks, enhancing their understanding of Indian culture and history. The opportunity to interact with peers and artists from around the world provided a platform for cultural exchange and personal growth.

Participating in the SPIC MACAY convention has undoubtedly enriched our students' educational journey, fostering a greater appreciation for cultural diversity and artistic expression. GIIS Tokyo looks forward to continuing our involvement in such valuable and enriching events, furthering our commitment to holistic education.
