Two months into the new curriculum of IB PYP, GIIS SMART Campus held a celebration of learning in May 2019, which was well received by parents and guests.

The event featured students as communicators. It was a student-led event where they articulated their learning, their learning approach their strengths and struggles. The audience witnessed some excellent display of creativity in the form of class projects, posters, quizzes, iMovies and experiments. Students acted as hosts showcasing their learning about simple concepts like Five senses and complex issues like the UN Convention on the rights of the child. They were seen singing their self-composed ‘Raps’ and also shaking a leg to the ‘International Dances’ that became the highlight of the event.

The Celebration of Learning was a culmination of the First Unit of Inquiry in PYP, under the transdisciplinary theme - ‘Who We Are’. During this unit of inquiry, students explored and enquired into central ideas related to the human body, traditions and celebrations, roles and responsibilities within a community, rights of a child and a balanced lifestyle.

Celebration of learning is a part of the IB PYP curriculum framework and is a great way to develop a partnership between parents and school. The event compels students to reflect on and articulate what they have learnt, how they learnt, questions they answered, research they conducted, and areas of strength and struggles. It is a powerful opportunity for students to make their learning public and gain confidence by presenting their learning to an authentic audience.

The occasion also served as a great platform for parents to visit and experience the achievements of their children and interact with the teachers to know more about the curriculum.
