GIIS students display impeccable chess prowess at the Virtual Chess Open 2022

GIIS chess enthusiastic students got an excellent opportunity to showcase their skills in the game by participating in the recently held GIIS Virtual Chess Open, 2022. The annual tournament was hosted by the SMART Campus Chess Club on March 26, 2022, and received an overwhelming response from the students of Grades 6 to 12, with over 80 players competing against each other. 

 

The tournament was hosted on the popular platform chess.com and held 6 rounds with 10 minutes per side wherein pairings and rankings were determined according to the Swiss system.

 

After the rigorous rounds of competition from 11 am to 1 pm, Vidhyuth Ramakrishnan from 8A, CLSP emerged as the winner. The top 5 players received achievement certificates in addition to the participation certificates provided to all players. The level of skills displayed by the participants and the enthusiasm with which they participated were hugely appreciated by everyone. 

 

GIIS has always emphasised the importance of giving students opportunities to grow beyond classroom learnings. The Virtual Chess Open Tournament is an embodiment of the award-winning 9GEMS philosophy practised by GIIS that emphasises excellence in sports as one of the major parts of holistic development in students.
