A fruitful month of November for SMART Campus students

Dear Parents,

The month of November was preparation time for most of our students and parents for curriculum and subject choices for the following academic year. Orientations were held for classes 5, 8, and 10 to acquaint all with the choice of curriculum and appropriate subjects to pursue. Feedback was also sought to introduce new subjects for IGCSE and IBDP classes.

Students also had an opportunity for out-of-class learning in the form of field trips for classes 7 to 10. There was immense joy and excitement in travelling to Sungei Buloh and Fort Canning and multiple conversations that transpired post visits among the students and teachers.

As usual, our senior students conducted community service in the form of a donation drive to support the less fortunate and also attended the Leadership Lecture Series with Professor Subra Suresh, President of NTU. Our Economics and Business Studies students also had the privilege to listen and learn from Mr Srikanth Nott, Director Cowrie Capital Pte Ltd on Consumer Goods, Financial Services, Healthcare – B2C, B2B, B2B2C. These opportunities have proven beyond doubt truly inspirational for the student community, providing deep insights and direction for aspiring to be leaders in fields of their interest and choice.

Real World Challenges Convention for Grades 6-12 was a 2-day event that saw the participation of over 1000 students from GIIS Singapore as well as from our overseas campuses. There were 15 competitions, each embracing 1 Sustainable Development Goal, and a Sports Challenge, bringing together students, parents, and teachers in a competitive spirit and allowing for creativity and thinking out of the box ideas and suggestions to preserve mother Earth. The competitions saw close to 34 judges, and more than 15 referees for the 3 games, from diverse backgrounds giving feedback, tips, and guidance on how students could do better in their presentations going forward.

The Annual Law Summit conducted by students for students of Grades 9-11 was again a big success with immense learning for all who attended the event.

Some praise-worthy moments this month were as follows:

Vihaan Hampihallikar and Aryan Modi are representing Singapore in the Men's Team for ICC World Cup Cricket Challenge League A Malaysia and Malaysia Quadrangular T20 Series.

IGCSE 9 students were the team finalists for ‘BeTheChange 2022’ as part of the Design for Change annual competition.

Students also participated in the GIIS Dubai’s Global Student Summit Season 4, winning prizes for the Coding and Entrepreneurship, and Business Challenge.

Smart Campus students also won a Gold medal in ACSIS U 14 division 1 Cricket tournament. In the last league match, GIIS Punggol beat NPSI by 75 runs.

Secondary students competed with 16 powerful opponents from Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, China, South Korea, Vietnam, Guam, Thailand, and India and secured second place in the Asia Pacific Company of the Year (CoY) competition, 2022.

The month ended on a high note with preparations for school closing for the Winter Break, with students coming in casual clothes on Dec 2, 2022 to celebrate the year-end and wish each other a happy and relaxed holiday.

Wishing all our parents a very happy vacation. Until we meet again in the New Year, be safe and happy and celebrate December as a month of Sharing and Giving.

Cheers and God bless.
