First week of the new academic session at Global Indian International School (GIIS), Noida was full of smiles, happiness and new bonds, as students from pre-primary, middle school, an senior secondary wings joined back after their session end break.

The first week for the little ones at school started with settling them in the atmosphere and adjusting them to the new class setup by engaging them in clay molding activity and rhyme singing session. Coloring exercises were used as a medium to begin enhancement of listening and concentration skills of the students. Activities like slow and fast clap, rolly-polly, sway your arms, etc. gave them an opportunity to become comfortable and friendly with their new bunch of friends and class teachers. Throughout the week a special bond was created with the kids by interacting with them and listening to their small stories.

For the middle wing the week was filled with activities that aimed at establishing new friendships between students. Students were made to exchange friendship cards and participate in a poster making activity “I AM...” where each student made a folder describing their personality as per the adjectives in their names. The activity was aimed at enhancing positive self-talk and also served as an ice-breaker session. Later a fun game ‘’Creating a time capsule’’ was played among students divided in groups. The activity was carried out with an objective of giving students a chance to envision, and set their goals and share with their classmates.

For the secondary grades the week was all about getting to know the new syllabus, being friends with new classmates, sharing their ambitions and dreams, aspirations and goals for the year they want to achieve. Besides settling in the studies, welcome notes were also a very much part of the 1st week for students of grade 6-8. Teachers talked about the plans they had made to make sure that each student gets two steps closer to their dreams. Certain school rules were reinforced and the expectations from the parents were also discussed, after which regular classes were held as academics comes to the forefront in secondary school.
