The tiny tots celebrated Diwali with multiple engaging and fun activities

Global Indian International School (GIIS), Noida celebrated Diwali in a virtual session organized to sensitize the students with the importance of the festival and ways of celebrating it in an eco-friendly manner.

Diwali (Deepawali) is one of the India's biggest and most loved festivals. It is a festival of lights and every Indian celebrates it with immense joy and happiness. During the festival, people light up their houses to show how happy they are. They worship Lord Ganesha for good welfare and prosperity and Goddess Lakshmi for wealth and wisdom. It is celebrated to mark the return of Lord Rama from 14 years of exile and his victory over the demon Ravana. In many parts of India, Diwali is celebrated for five consecutive days.

The celebrations began with a powerpoint presentation to make the tiny tots familiar with the significance of the festival and how it is observed every year by Indians to celebrate the victory of light over darkness or the triumph of good over evil.

An animated story based on the occasion was shared with the little munchkins; teachers explained ways by which students can celebrate a green Diwali and reduce all kinds of pollution. Children were encouraged to say no to firecrackers and yes to the only diyas. Use of clay made diyas were promoted instead of plastic lights, making rangoli using flowers/rice/natural colors, etc. Children were educated on helping the needy by donating food, clothes, books, toys, etc.

The children were also engaged in diya decoration activity in which they decorated diyas with paints and decorative material following their teacher’s instructions via a ppt and video.

A compiled video of Diwali Kavita and wishes was created by the teachers to share children reciting lines and conveying Diwali wishes. Lastly, a virtual Diwali dance party was organized for the little ones to enjoy and have a blast.

The variety of activities conducted helped the children in learning about Indian Mythology and culture. All children participated enthusiastically in the virtual Diwali celebrations and made memories they will cherish forever.
