Montessori wing of Global Indian International School (GIIS), Noida observed Safety, Health and Hygiene week for the pre-nursery, nursery and KG classes in the campus. Series of activities were conducted over the week to bring out the importance of observing hygiene in daily life, and being safe in school, home or anywhere else. Kick starting the week with a special assembly conducted by KG-C students talked about the benefits of personal and environmental hygiene we must observe in our daily routine. Fun activities like colour hand and wash activity, and doll bubble bath time activity were conducted to highlight the bad effects of not following a clean and healthy regime at a personal level. Day 2 - began with storytelling session where children were sensitized on importance of doing exercises regularly, and how it enhances their growth and aids personality development. Show and tell activity was conducted next in classrooms; a role play on “healthy foods v/s junk foods” was put across by teachers to demonstrate the nutritive value of vegetables and fruits, and how eating junk food can make functioning of human body slow. To inculcate healthy eating habits in kids, ‘healthy tiffin act’ was also a part of day 2 activity galore and each student got something healthy to eat in their tiffin boxes. Day 3 - commenced with the dental care activity; teachers explained the importance of good brushing habits and how proper brushing keeps germs and cavities away. “Stranger danger” activity was also a part of the week long celebrations to sensitize students on how to be safe from strangers; children were asked to follow the safety instructions their parents and teachers keep giving them from time to time. Story enactment of the “Red Riding Hood” was used by the teachers to reinforce the concept of ‘stranger is a danger’ by respective class teachers. The day was concluded with a safety walk by teachers and students to count number of safe (like first aid, fire-extinguishers, etc.) and unsafe items (like open cupboard doors where someone could bump their heads, toys on the floor where they could trip, power socket, scissors for art and craft etc.) present in school. Day 4 - the last day of the celebrations witnessed a special assembly on dangers they may face at school and home, and how awareness can help them to be safe always. The most highlighting feature of the week was ‘Sense Booth’ activity where each grade of the KG wing had to put up a stall depicting things/items relative to our five senses i.e. see, taste, smell, touch, and hear. Weeklong celebrations helped children to eat healthy, live healthy, and stay fit and to be safe at home, in school and on road. |
