Math's Magic activity - Unlocking padlocks and recognizing numbers

The pre-primary wing of Global Indian International School (GIIS), Noida engaged its students in fun and interesting Math Magic activities to encourage young minds to get involved in practical tasks and dispel their phobia for the subject.

Maths is dynamic in nature; it is one subject that keeps on changing and challenging its individuals to look beyond the ordinary and achieve new knowledge horizons. It is a subject that can only be enjoyed if one can relate to the concepts and quantities with the natural environment around them, thus developing thinking and reasoning abilities like no other.

K1 students were engaged in "reading and recognizing number" activity; students were asked to follow a few instructions and place the number in sequential order. The whole idea was to help students associate quantities with numbers.

K2 students, on the other hand, were engaged in "open the padlock" activity. Teachers tagged the locks and keys with number dots; each student had to count and match to open the lock. Students who were able to do it successfully were applauded with a star on their hand. This activity helped our little ones in improving their hand and eye coordination and gross motor skills.

The objective of conducting such activities regularly with pre-primary students is to help the young minds develop persistence and patience, build confidence, analyse and solve problems both in school and at home with complete understanding and ownership.
