Innovation and creativity showcase at the GSE contest on GIIS Olympics

The first Global Student Exchange (GSE) of the new academic session (2018-19) on GIIS Olympics witnessed great levels of participation, creativity and innovation as grades 6 students of GIIS Tokyo, Noida and Ahmedabad participated with immense confidence and preparation. Mr. Mayur Rastogi – Head Marketing, GIIS India along with Mr. Ajay Pathak - Executive Creative Director, Crestra Communications presided over the competition as judges.

GIIS Noida hosted the event and was connected to other participating teams via video conferencing. The idea was to let students research, innovate and create a sport that has never been a part of the Olympics, an event people have been witnessing over the years. The participating teams came out with a sport unique in its nature and existence; from designing of the logo, deciding on a tagline and a name, setting of rules and regulations, flow of the game, to presenting their study in form of a power point presentation, etc. everything was done by students themselves, and some guidance from teachers.

The competition was split over two weeks with series of activities planned. Students were judged on various rubrics like creativity, relevance to the topic, clarity of the concept, mediums used to present their sport, etc. The competition had 2 parts i.e. part 1 where each campus proactively posts their planning and behind the scenes updates on the specially created Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/giisolympics/), and part 2 where students from each of the campuses present their work in front of the panel of judges in form of a power point presentation.

Global Indian International School (GIIS) Tokyo went headfirst into the battle of creativity and came out with flying colours as they recreated the magic of witnessing a live Olympic ceremony that had an anthem, opening and a closing ceremony for the spectators to sit back and enjoy. GIIS Ahmedabad was next to present their game that focused on women empowerment. The logo created by them was highly appreciated by the judges’ as well. Heading to the competition last, GIIS Noida presented their bit in the most interacting and thoughtful manner, and were applauded for their interactive style of putting the concept on plate. Winners were declared thereafter; there was a tie between GIIS Noida & Tokyo for the first place, and GIIS Ahmedabad was placed second.

Mr. Rajiv Bansal - Director Operations, GIIS India appreciated the efforts of students and said “it’s amazing to see students take part in competitions like these with such finesse and sincerity. The level of work they have presented today is outstanding, and it’s very difficult for me or the judges to select one single winner”. Adding further, Ms. Sunita Jaisingh - Academic Head, GIIS India said - “students have done exceptionally well. The kind of work they have presented today is beyond my expectation as they have used their imaginative horses beyond their capacities. The first GSE of this session has concluded on a great note. I am looking forward to the upcoming competitions and am sure that we will again witness some unbelievable work by our students.”

It was a well-deserved victory and the campuses showcased immense sportsmanship spirit. We got to see team work and creativity take a whole new shape and rise onto a new level of finesse and innovation.
