Imbibing Gandhian values; Wind mill and Charkha making activity for grade 2 students

On the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, grade 2 students of Global Indian International School (GIIS), Noida were engaged in two activities to sensitize them with the significance and importance of celebrating Gandhi Jayanti.

The first activity was making paper mills using origami paper, sticks and toothpicks. Every child from each section made beautiful paper mills and wrote slogans on them. This activity helped them in being familiar with the use and purpose of actual windmills, and how they produce energy to convert it into electricity.

In the second activity, students worked together to create charkha using ice-cream sticks, cotton thread and paper. Teachers shared the significance of charkha and Khadi in Gandhi Ji's life and its relevance in the contemporary world. They even learned that Khadi is a hand-spun and hand-woven cloth. Mahatma Gandhi elevated this spinning and weaving to an ideology for self-reliance and self-government.

These activities helped the students in being aware of values that make individuals better human beings. They learnt about values of truth, non-violence, kindness and love and were encouraged to imbibe them in their daily life as regular habits.
