“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtfully committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
World Earth Day was celebrated with great ardour at Global Indian International School (GIIS), Noida to commemorate our benevolent Mother Earth. On this important occasion, a special assembly was conducted to sensitize the children about the conservation of natural resources. The idea was also to motivate them to do their bit towards making their planet greener and cleaner.
The assembly was anchored by a group of students from grade 10 including Shravil Shakalya, Sanjana Kalyani, Shivangi, Ojaswani Pandey and Udi Yadav. It commenced by invoking the blessings of Almighty through a melodious prayer sung by the choir group. Since this was the first special assembly of the session being conducted on physical mode, it began by welcoming everyone back to school followed by an enlightening thought on the importance of celebrating earth day and the need of preserving our natural resources. After that there was an enchanting song sung by the choir group conveying a beautiful message to students and reminding them of their duties towards their planet.
The song was followed by GIIS headlines wherein the exceptional achievements of the students of GIIS in various fields were shared and lauded. Following was an informative speech by Sanjana Kalyani in which she touched upon the ancient times when our mother earth was a beautiful planet, where people used to breathe in clean air moving on to what it would become in the years to come if the destructive activities of human beings continue like this. She closed her speech by asking the audience to give their opinions on how they could preserve the planet from being polluted.
A small quiz based on the questions related to environment and ways to preserve it was conducted in which students across grades 6-9 participated whole heartedly. The questions were stuck on a spinning wheel which was spun by the students, and as the wheel stopped on a particular question, the audience were asked to answer the question the wheel arc pointed to. The most mesmerizing performance of the celebration was a street play that beautifully narrated the history of Earth Day and demonstrated the side effects of human trying to modify nature for his own selfish needs.
To further enliven the atmosphere, children presented a graceful dance expressing their love for Mother Earth. Moving towards the end, two of our students, Shreya Gupta and Ishani Chawdhury shared their views and experiences during online learning from the past two years.
The assembly concluded with an address by Ms. Madhuri Kaw, Academic Coordinator of senior segment in which she emphasized not only on the importance of conserving natural resources but also on observing each day as an Earth day. She congratulated everyone who had contributed their bit in organizing this assembly so beautifully.
The sole objective of conducting such activities is to call attention to some of our most pressing environmental and social problems, including climate change, biodiversity loss, and dwindling natural resources, and encourage young minds to their bit so that our future generations can enjoy these natural resources in the future.
