GIIS Noida supports Mission Shakti programme to encourage women empowerment

In some parts of India, the birth of a girl child is still considered inauspicious. So much so that female foeticide is still a worrying practice along with numerous other practices that vanish the very existence of girls from society. Even today, when the world has progressed so much and technological advancements have made the country achieve new heights, the condition of girls/women in society hasn’t changed much.

To support women empowerment and encourage gender equality, the government of Odisha, under the mentorship of Hon’ble Chief Minister - Shri Naveen Patnaik, introduced Mission Shakti that aimed at constructing a society which is self-reliant, conscious of socioeconomic issues, where there is a spirit of cooperation, and women are appropriately skilled to undertake their choice of activities without hindrances or dependence.

This initiative was first introduced in the year 2001 with the objective of helping women to achieve socio-economic independence by enabling them to have a job and pay scale based solely on their knowledge and skills.

The programme was recently adopted by the UP State Government to promote safety, dignity, and empowerment of females (women and girls). It also focuses on the rights of the girl child, sexual crime against women and girls, and adoption of orphaned girls. As a part of the awareness programme, all schools across the state were directed to conduct an oath-taking ceremony with volunteer school patrons to spread awareness on the cause.

GIIS Noida took the oath to protect the interests of a girl child and to encourage, support, and empower them in all aspects. The oath ceremony was administered by the school principal, Mr. Ganesh Sharma along with the school students (both girls and boys), teachers, parents, and staff members. The intent was to aid female empowerment among the masses and to normalize gender equality across areas of employment and household. After all, a country is known to be progressive with gender equality where both men and women enjoy the same socio-economic status, respect, and dignity together.
