GIIS celebrates Literary Week; various activities across grades to enhance language skills

Literary Week celebrations at Global Indian International School (GIIS), Noida were all about activities that led to a better understanding of the language and skills. Students from Grade 1 to 12 were involved in activities that gave them a gist of various aspects of a language.

Students from grades 1-5 participated in storytelling make and enact, and group/individual activities to demonstrate their LSRW (Listening, speaking, reading, and writing) skills. These activities encouraged students to read books, enhance their creativity, improve their dialogue delivery, vocabulary and creative writing skills.

Grade 6 performed picture poetry activity, students choose their favourite poem from their English Readers and illustrated their understanding of the poem through a drawing or by adding an adjective or phrase with the title of the poem. This activity helped them in knowing about different genres of poetry, instilled a love for the poem and enhanced their understanding of it through the medium of art. Grade 7 students worked on a word wall and wrote synonyms on the theme given to them. This activity helped them to understand the topic, improved their vocabulary and researching skills.

Grade 8 kids created a display ad of a product along with a script to enact it in front of the class. They wrote slogans and details of the product. The themes given to them were related to sports, education, food, etc. This activity brought out their minds imaginative side, enhanced creative thinking and also improved their speaking and writing skills. Grade 9 students participated in know your author activity where they wrote a biography with pictures on their favourite book author. This activity helped them in augmenting their research, thinking, speaking & writing skills.

Grade 10 and 11 students participated in the story of emotion and collage making activity. Students had to choose a topic based on the themes of (humour, love, anger, fear etc.) and express their emotion in the form of a story on paper in the first activity. In the collage making activity, they had to use a Poetic device used in media (e.g. jingles, advertisements, slogans, captions, taglines, name of the product brand, company etc.) to create a collage. The activity educated students about the literary/poetic devices and their usage in day to day life.

Lastly, grade 12 students were paired according to their preference and liking of a particular common hero/idol. Each student/pair had to prepare for an interview with questions and answers on their personal and professional life.  This activity helped our students to delve deep into the lives of their favourite personalities and know the hard work they had put into achieving what they have in their life.
