From Theory to Practice - GIIS Noida visits the prestigious CSIR National Physical Laboratory

Research has been the driving force behind incredible advancements in science and technology, made possible by the curiosity and dedication of brilliant scientists. In early December, the senior students of GIIS Noida had an inspiring opportunity to experience this firsthand during their visit to the CSIR National Physical Laboratory. They explored the fascinating work being done in cutting-edge research and gained valuable insights into the world of innovation and discovery.

The educational excursion began with Dr. Mukesh Jewaria, Senior Scientist at CSIR, briefing the students about laser technology, and explaining the making and functioning of laser lights.

After a short recess, lab visits were scheduled, where students got to explore different parts of the Laboratory.

Students were taken to the Chemical Lab’s UV Zone, where they were shown the making of a fluorescent liquid and the behaviour of different materials exposed to ultraviolet light. They were taught about its uses for the security of banknotes and UV coating for voters instead of traditional ink.

The students were then taken into the Plastic Recycling Lab’s Waste Management Zone where they were given a rundown on how different types of waste are handled at an industrial level. They were shown how different materials were made from waste and plastic, including the different machines involved in the process and how each one works.

At last, the students were accompanied to the Fluid Calibration Lab, where they were explained the process of fluid mechanics and fluid dynamics.

The experience was beneficial, as students were able to observe the practical usage of the various concepts they studied at school. The excursion, organised by the Career Counselling and University Guidance Cell, proved to be fruitful, allowing the students to grasp scientific knowledge and understand the importance of research.
