Fire Safety Drill real time experience for students, staff and support staff

Global Indian International School (GIIS), Noida arranged a Fire Drill session for students, teachers, staff and support staff of the school. Since the security of our students and teachers is of utmost priority, we at the Noida campus believe in training and educating them to face any unwanted emergency that may arise and prove fatal if not handled well and in time.

Students from grade 6-12 were engaged in this activity which was conducted under the expert supervision of Mr Radhey Shyam and his team of policemen. They demonstrated the use of a fire extinguisher to put out a fire during emergency breakouts. Hands-on experience of using a fire extinguisher was given to students, staff and support staff who had volunteered for the same. They even got to understand ways that can help handle people in panic and the importance of the presence of mind during such situations.

While sharing his real-life experiences with the kids and the staff present, Mr Shyam emphasized on being practical and not being panicked in such situations. He recommended that one should try to be as calm and composed  as he can to handle the situation properly. He also encouraged students to take the lead and help in rescuing people if there are no officials during the scenario. Also, take complete precautions and ensure safety measures to make sure they are safe first then think of helping anybody else.

The mock fire safety session conducted taught our students and teachers the following points -

  1. Reinforcing the availability of the sound and/or sight of fire alarms, the location of emergency routes, the assembly point, and any specific fire safety procedures.
  2. Testing fire safety measures work properly or not.
  3. Assessing the evacuation path from the school; checking its quickness and ease to follow during an emergency.
  4. Identify areas where alarms or signs may not be clear to people.
  5. Allow fire wardens to practice their duties.
  6. Test personal emergency evacuation plans.
  7. Ensure that emergency routes and exits are free from obstructions.
  8. Test the school’s roll calling procedures.

The session proved fruitful as each present benefitted with the information and practical procedures demonstrated to ensure safety and security while being at home. School or even a public setup. Each one will now be able to act better and help people get out of such scenarios with minimum physical or mental impact.
