A special assembly on Baisakhi and Ambedkar Jayanti was conducted at Global Indian International School (GIIS), Noida by grade 5B students. The assembly was an amalgamation of colours and information presented to the audience to familiarize them with the whys and how’s of Baisakhi along with the contributions of Baba Saheb Ambedkar. The special assembly had all elements of celebration and knowledge sharing. To begin with, Gayatri Mantra was recited followed by basic meditational exercises. Dances like Bhangra and Giddha, and folk song marked the Baisakhi celebrations followed by an informative PowerPoint presentation on the contributions and teachings of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. A small video on his life was shown thereafter. The festival of Baisakhi holds a special place for both Hindus & Sikhs. It is celebrated by Hindus to mark the new harvest season whereas the Sikhs celebrate it in remembrance of the memorable occasion of formation of Khalsa Panth. Ambedkar Jayanti on the other hand, is observed every year as the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, to pay respects to him for his remarkable contribution in drafting of the constitution of India. Sweden delegates from Stockholm who visited the campus for the knowledge exchange programme graced the assembly and had an amazing time walking through another aspect of our rich cultural heritage, promoting inter cultural exchange between both the countries. National Head, Academics - Ms. Sunita Jaisingh spoke at length about the significance of the festival and how it positively effects lives of so many people in India. She even quizzed the students sitting in audience about facts related to the theme being observed. |
