GIIS Tokyo's Unforgettable Journey in G20 THINQ Quiz

Embarking on the G20 THINQ Quiz journey, Ashley (Sakura) Iwanaga from GIIS Tokyo and Kaito Umezu from IISJ Tokyo, representing Team Japan, found themselves immersed in an intellectual odyssey organized by the Indian Navy and NWWA during India's G20 presidency, from December 19 to December 26, 2023. This quiz wasn't just a test of academic prowess; it evolved into an extraordinary opportunity for the brightest minds worldwide to converge, exchange ideas, and forge friendships that transcended borders. Our students reveled in the experience, relishing the chance to learn, make new friends, and delve into the vibrant tapestry of India.

Representing Team Japan in the G20 THINQ International semifinals at the G20 India Secretariat was both an honour and a nerve-racking challenge. The quizzing rounds, featuring 24 teams, were intense, with Ms. Pooja Keni serving as our dedicated mentor. Despite facing tough questions, the camaraderie among students prevailed, and the experience went beyond the competitive aspect, fostering a sense of family within our team.

Under Ms. Pooja Keni's dedicated mentorship, our preparations were shaped with care, showcasing her compassionate nature beyond the quiz confines. The challenges of the journey were met with unwavering support and meticulous planning by organizers. The Indian Embassy's assistance in the VISA process was invaluable, and the well-organized itinerary ensured our week-long trip was maximized.

Interactions with global students during the event added another layer of enrichment. Connecting with over 20 international teams allowed our students to share our diverse cultures, languages, and culinary experiences. The bus rides transformed into lively spaces for language exchange, creating a fun and educational environment. Learning about others' life stories and ambitions added inspiration to our aspirations.

Exploring India's rich history and culture through sightseeing, including visits to landmarks like the Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar, left an indelible mark on our understanding of the world. The street food event at the Indian Navy house provided a humbling experience, contributing to our cultural immersion.

Despite falling short of victory in the finals, the post-quiz reflections reinforced the invaluable life lesson that success isn't guaranteed, but the journey is what truly matters. Congratulations to Team Singapore for their well-deserved win, and the bonds and memories created during the entire experience will be everlasting.

This experience stands as a testament to GIIS Tokyo's commitment to providing students with opportunities for global exposure, fostering cultural exchange, and nurturing well-rounded individuals.
