"Water is the driving force of all nature."

Annual Day 2014

Annual Day 2014Global Indian International School (GIIS) Noida campus, organized its second Annual Day celebration - The Blue Planet, a call to conserve water, to conserve life.

The role of an institution is towards shaping the minds of the younger generation and making them responsible towards the society. GlIS believes in holistic development of its students, and The Blue Planet was a depiction of the consciousness and sensitivity towards preserving and conserving the natural resources, that the school endeavours to imbibe in its students. Through beautifully coordinated dance, music and drama the students touched the hearts of the audience.

The Annual Day began in December 2014, with lighting of the lamp by the Guest of Honour, Mr. Rajeev Katyal, Country Director GIIS India followed by a welcome song and Ganesh Vanadana by the students. Prize distribution for academics and co-curricular activities, presentation of the School Annual Report by Ms. Nandita Dasgupta, Principal GIIS Noida and showcasing of the International School Award stood for testimony of the accomplishment of the school in the academic year 2013-14.

Finally the performance of the year was the ballet and the curtain-raiser for ‘The Blue Planet’ was Kindergarten personifying the five elements of nature as they danced around the ‘Mother Earth’, enacted by a student of class VII, in beautifully coordinated movements. Students of Pre-nursery and Nursery classes transformed the stage into a wondrous aquatic world while the ‘umbrella dance’ of classes I and II was a colourful delight. Students from the primary classes narrated the ‘journey of water’ in both Hindi and English languages.

Many Indian folk dances are themed on water and rain and the musical heritage of rural India came to life with ‘Panihari Dance’ of Rajasthan performed by girls of class IV and V, followed by ‘Kumaoni Dance’ on importance of water for agriculture by students of Class VI and VII. Students of classes III and IV swayed rhythmically to ‘Koli Dance’ of Maharashtra depicting coastal livelihood.

The highpoint of the performance was the enactment of water pollution through personification of water droplets by students expressing the grief and anguish on the abuse of nature. The programme ended on a melodious note with ‘The Water Song’. The vote of thanks was offered by Ms Rachna Jain, Pre Primary Co-ordinator.
